Congratulations on getting that smart TV! Now, it's time to install it. You have two options- get a professional to install it or do it yourself. Although we recommend the former, you can always try out the latter if you fancy yourself savvy and brave enough. After all, accidents involving falling TVs are quite common. If you are doing it yourself, then pay close attention to the steps outlined in this article so the installation is done efficiently.
Step 1: Get the Required Tools
Before getting started with your TV mount installation, get the following tools:
Stud Finder: This provides maximum support to the TV mount after installation
Power Drill: This is preferred to a screwdriver as it speeds up the installation
Drill Bits: A carbide-tipped masonry bit and a Phillips head drill bit can help you make pilot holes in the walls and drive the mounting screws.
Level: Even if you're a professional surveyor, resist the temptation to use your eyes. Use a level tool to ensure perfect alignment.
Painters Tape
Although you may choose not to, installing a TV mount with aid from a friend is much better than doing it all alone.
Step 2: Decide Where to Position the TV
Angles are key considerations to enjoy the best picture quality and viewing experience. If you get it wrong, you must do extra work by moving the TV to another spot.
As a result, take your time to assess the best possible spot and angle. For instance, if you have a fireplace, you could mount the TV above it as it is a fine focal point.
Step 3: Locate the Wall Studs With a Stud Finder
The next step is to move the stud finder across the wall until a stud is found. After this, you can mark the position with painter's tape to help you remember the spot.
Step 4: Mark and Drill the Pilot Holes
The pilot holes are the small holes that'll facilitate the mounting screws' entry into the drywall. This is where having help comes in, as your partner can help you hold the mount up to the wall while you use the level to ensure it's well-aligned.
Then, use a pencil to denote the spots you want to drill the holes into. Afterward, attach a masonry bit to the drill and make the holes. Finally, attach the mounting bracket to the wall and drill the screws into the holes you previously made.
Step 5: Attach the Mounting Plate to the TV
After removing the stand from the TV, look for the mounting plate attachment holes behind it and attach the plate to it with the accompanying hardware.
Step 6: Mount the TV to the Wall
This is another step best done with a partner. Here, you'll lift the TV carefully, line the mounting arm up, and connect it with the bracket on the wall. Ensure that the manufacturer's instructions are followed to the letter.
